Jacques Hnizdovsky (Janu – November 8, ) was a Ukrainian-American painter, printmaker, sculptor, ex libris designer, book illustrator, and art historian.   Hnizdovsky () was born in the Ukraine and came to the US in Eventually relief block printing became his primary medium, and plants and animals his primary subjects. Hnizdovsky illustrated many books, including Slovo o polku Ihorevi (The Tale of Ihor's Campaign, ), M. Halun Bloch's Ukrainian Folk Tales (), Poems of Samuel Taylor Coleridge (), and the album Flora Exotica (). He also designed several hundred book covers (among them the Encyclopedia of Ukraine) and a large number of bookplates. A bookplate (or book-plate, as it was commonly styled until the early 20th century), also known as ex-librīs (Latin for "from the books (or library)"), is usually a small printed or decorative label pasted into a book, often on the front endpaper, to indicate typographical bookplates are termed "book labels". Bookplates typically bear a name, motto, device (coat-of-arms.
